Working with clients in Cambridge

Cambridge is part of my own training story. I completed Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction through Cambridge Health Alliance in 2022, and mindfulness is one of the foundations of my work, alongside psychodynamic theory, attachment theory and Internal Family Systems.

My practice is entirely online, and Los Angeles is home, so anyone physically located in Massachusetts can work with me by video—whether you’re near Harvard Square, in Kendall, or across the river in Boston.

Mindfulness for busy, analytical minds

Cambridge is a city of universities, labs and start-ups, full of people who think for a living. That can be a gift and a trap. When you’re used to solving problems with your intellect, it’s natural to try to think your way out of anxiety or heartbreak too, and to feel frustrated when understanding something doesn’t make it stop hurting.

That’s where mindfulness comes in. Insight without noticing tends to stay in the head, and noticing without insight can feel aimless. In our work together, we’ll do both: understand where a pattern comes from, and practice noticing what’s happening in your body and mind while it’s happening, without rushing to fix it. My guide to mindfulness-based therapy explains more.

None of this asks you to stop thinking. Your intellect is an asset, and it’s welcome in the room. The aim is simply to give it some company: a body that can settle, feelings that can be felt rather than solved, and parts of you that get listened to instead of overruled.

What we might work on

You might be dealing with anxiety, stress and overwhelm, the steady pressure of academic or professional life, or high standards that have tipped into burnout. You might be in the middle of a transition—a new program, a first job, a relationship beginning or ending—or simply want to understand yourself more deeply.

I draw on Internal Family Systems as my primary lens, which means getting to know the different “parts” of you with curiosity rather than judgment. For a mind that likes to analyze, that can be a welcome change of pace: less arguing with yourself, more listening.

The practical side

Individual sessions are 45 minutes and couples sessions are 60, all by secure video. You’ll need to be physically in Massachusetts or California at the time of each session, with a private space and a reliable connection. If you share an apartment, a closed door and headphones can go a long way.

If your year runs on semesters or deadlines, we’ll talk about a rhythm that makes sense—weekly at least to begin with, and every other week later on if that suits the work.

My practice is private pay and out of network. If your plan has out-of-network mental health benefits, I can provide a monthly superbill for you to submit for reimbursement. My rates page has the details.

Getting started

Everyone begins with a free 15-minute consultation by video, with no paperwork and no pressure. You can request a consultation whenever you’re ready, and my page on therapy in Massachusetts covers working together anywhere in the state.

A few common questions

Do I need to have tried meditation before?

Not at all. Mindfulness in our sessions is practical and low-key—noticing your breath, your body or a feeling as it comes up. No experience is needed, and nothing about it asks you to adopt anything spiritual.

Can graduate students work with you?

Yes. I work with adults, including graduate students, as long as you’re physically located in Massachusetts or California at the time of our session. My page on therapy for college students has more on fitting therapy around academic life.

How do I get started?

Send a short note through the contact form, and we’ll set up a free 15-minute consultation by video. Please keep clinical details out of the form, since it isn’t a secure channel. A line or two is plenty.
